Large set of glass lantern slides used in teaching at Manchester at different times. Includes examples mounted by W. Watson, Curry & Paxton, Flatters Milborne & McKechnie, Ward and J. T. Chapman. Mainly pathological images and some specimens, particularly of glaucoma, various ocular cancers and of the optic nerve; also optical illusions, diagrams, a blue filter, quotations (e.g. from Helmholtz 1868), an artist's impression of luminous fish on the sea bed and demonstrations of the appearance of the astigmatic fan to various types of patient (bearing the label of Dr W.M. Stirling).
