Illustrated with photographs of a silver chatelaine case (H and T, Birmingham 1889-90), brass spectacles c.1840, brass wig spectacles c.1800, steel wire spectacles c.1850-60, silver wig spectacles c.1824-5, steel wig spectacles c.1780, blue-tinted spectacles c.1860 and steel wire spectacles c.1840, all drawn from the private collection of Mr W. F. Scott FBOA, Optician, of Blyth, Northumberland.
