20th century reproduction of a 17th c. painting, as printed on the British Optical Association's own press and supplied to members with copies of the Dioptric Review under the caption 'Saint Paul. A reproduction of an early XVIIth century engraving by Jacob de Gheyn after an anonymous picture of the Spanish school of the same period. Both the picture and the engraving are to be seen in the reference section of the National Gallery. The anachronistic spectacles worn by the saint are probably of the leather variety which were in vogue at the end of the XVIth century.' Mounted with maroon card, housed in an early 21st century red wood and glazed frame with internal gilt surround.
