Programme for an inaugural professorial lecture by Geoffrey Ball of the Department of Ophthalmic Optics, University of Aston in Birmingham, held on 21st January 1971. A5 portrait format printed in black on 24 pages, stapled, with stiff end papers. Includes some biographical reminiscence, a plea to replace the term 'sight test' with 'eye examination', some early history of ophthalmic optics, a survey of interesting research in the present day (1971), some comments on education and politics, visual aspects of driving and the patient-practitioner relationship. Illustrated with diagrams and photographs.
