Fourth edition of 20,000. Includes review of medical literature circa 1843-1869, 'a few unsolicited testimonials of recent cures' (1894-1899), testimonials to the late Dr Pomies (1880-1894), a chapter on the danger of the use of chloroform and cocaine in ophthalmic surgery, a chapter on the 'futility' of enucleation, regulations for the Ophthalmic Institution, press opinions (1883-88). Back cover features a promotion for the optical department offering spectacle lenses, supplied in French-imported spectacle or folder frames.
