Modern photographic print reproducing a 16th c. (1535) German woodcut, reproducing title page from a rare first printed edition (1535) of Vitello's [Per optikes] De natura, ratione et proiectione radiorum visus, luminum, colorum atque formarum., originally written circa 1270. Includes imagery of a burning glass focusing the sun's rays, a rainbow, a man viewing his upside-down reflection in a mirror and a ray of vision emanating from a man's eye. Features a rainbow, a man peering in a mirror hung from a tree branch and a man focussing the rays of the sun with a lens to start a fire.
