Brass compound microscope mounted on wooden hinged case. Tapering body tube. Rack and pinion focusing. Mahogany case has two hook clasps, keyhole escutcheon and blue velvet lift-out tray. Tray contains 2 spare lenses plus high-powered alternative eyepiece which can screw to these lenses, two backgrounds (a black and white disc of stained ivory and a transparent glass disc), a brass live box and a broken glass slide. Paper label on base of box beneath tray. Also a very old handwritten note 'A List of Objects' including down of a moth, skin of a bug, knotted hair of a mouse, feather of a pheasant.
