20th century reproduction of a 19th c. painting, as printed on the British Optical Association's own press and supplied to members with copies of the Dioptric Review under the caption 'In this engraving Galileo (on the left) is seen expounding the globe to the English poet Milton who visited the great astronomer at his villa at Arcetri, near Florence, when he was in Italy in 1638. The engraving is taken from a painting by Tito Lessi which now hangs in a Paris picture gallery. There is a good copy of it at the Royal Observatory at Arcetri'. Mounted with maroon card, housed in an early 21st century red wood and glazed frame with internal gilt surround.
